Too many projects, too many ideas, too few hours — one learning a day anyway

Reddit is closing its RSS feeds, and the replacement is nothing

Reddit was one of the last big social networks with open feeds. For anyone reading it through a feedreader, the replacement is nothing. That is the part I notice as a builder: RSS is the cheapest glue there is, and it only works while the other side keeps serving it.

What I’d do: treat every Reddit feed in a pipeline as dead already and pull it before the cutoff does. Same for AI assistants that answer questions from Reddit content, which are named as affected. A feed someone else hosts is a favour, not an interface. Build on what you host yourself.

The story — Reddit is ending its RSS feeds on 13 November 2026 and plans to shut down its public API by March 2027, citing scraping and abuse of the interfaces. Whether the aim is protecting the platform or the value of its data is unclear; Reddit sells data licences to AI firms including Google and OpenAI. Social listening tools, research tools and AI assistants are affected, registered API users are not. Moderators are pointed to the app Discord Relay. (Source)
