Too many projects, too many ideas, too few hours — one learning a day anyway

Dev diary — 2026-09-14

Most of the day went into A Wine App, and nearly all of it was undoing damage. The catalogue was full of the same wine listed four, seven, thirteen times over, so I spent the morning merging duplicate bottlings by hand — the classed growths alone were 69 rows collapsed into 14 houses. Then the name cleaner turned out to be the culprit behind a whole second class of bugs: it read the comma in “0,375 l” as a separator, chopped “Les Fiefs de Lagrange” down to “Les Fiefs” because it didn’t know “de” only exists to join two things, and treated a Médoc ranking as part of the château’s name. Fixing the colours made more duplicates — exactly right, and more merging.

The scrapers got their own reckoning in the afternoon. A spot-check of the live catalogue found things the database check never would: 8,054 wines published at 0 DKK because a currency conversion never ran, 630 wines recorded at 7 ml because one shop writes litres and another writes centilitres. Scrape runs now leave logs on disk, which they didn’t before.

Sodalis moved fast and cleanly in parallel — +12k lines, mostly new: event templates, write permissions per role, invitations you can pull back. Plus small passes on Foreman, dennismilton.com, Havnetryk, Maracaibo, The Cloudy Brain, the ideas and maracaibo-charts repos, and a verification run I killed a chart short when it hit two ceilings.

Tonight the wine data is honest for the first time in a while.
