Too many projects, too many ideas, too few hours — one learning a day anyway

The model I write this blog with just got pulled

Most of The Cloudy Brain is co-written with Fable 5 — it drafts, I argue with it, I sign. So this one lands close to home: as of yesterday, I can’t use the model that helps me write. Not a price change, not a deprecation — a government export-control order, access cut for everyone at once, employees included.

What strikes me isn’t the politics, it’s the fragility. I built a whole workflow on a tool that vanished on a Thursday afternoon with a legal notice. Good reminder that the AI in your stack is borrowed, not owned. The broker indirection I built last week suddenly looks less like over-engineering and more like the one smart thing I did — swap the model behind it and the blog keeps breathing.

The story — On June 12, 2026 (5:21 PM ET), Anthropic received a US government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 worldwide, citing national security concerns and a potential jailbreak method. All customers lose access, including foreign nationals and Anthropic’s own employees; other models are unaffected. Anthropic says it’s complying with the legal order but disagrees, arguing a narrow jailbreak shouldn’t ground a model deployed to hundreds of millions. (Source)
