Too many projects, too many ideas, too few hours — one learning a day anyway

Dev diary — 2026-09-15

The day’s real story was A Wine App, and it started with a bug that had been quietly eating the catalogue: scrapers were writing a scraped price of 0 over stored prices, so any wine a shop stopped carrying dropped out. I spent the morning pulling that thread — a missing price now keeps the last stored one and marks the wine out of stock, build plans and category filters stop treating 0 as cheap, and a sold-out wine stays in your cellar and tells you what it last cost instead of vanishing. Prices also carry the date they were seen, so a wine that survives an unpriced scrape keeps an honest timestamp. Alongside that ran the catalogue’s identity work: odd bottle sizes that turned out to be our own misreadings, 26 offers moved to their real size, hundreds of held rows read back against the actual shop pages.

Smart home got the day’s other big push — threading fixes, radio now-playing that finally reports what’s actually streaming, and logging in to the home services from a config page instead of pasting tokens around. I also stood up a website repo for the wine app with its credentials kept out of config, plus small passes on the ecosystem tooling, my ideas notes, a repo watcher, Havnetryk data and The Cloudy Brain.

Tonight the catalogue finally keeps the wines nobody sells anymore.
