Too many projects, too many ideas, too few hours — one learning a day anyway

Dev diary — 2026-08-21

Rewriting whole at under 250 words.

The real story today was Sodalis, and it was a subtraction. The club app had three ways to look: surface, colour, and a “template” axis offering card layouts versus plain paper. None of the candidates looked sensible or pretty, so the axis died. Cards are gone, the theme picker is now light/dark then an accent colour, and the screenshot suite lost a whole dimension — 13 image tests had been shooting the same screen twice, and the full run got about 30% faster. Build 12 is the first without cards. Late in the day the second server started taking shape, API schema written acceptance-criteria first.

Tenant-migration tooling was the opposite: −88k lines, almost all cleanup. Old export artifacts that should never have been committed got purged, then a long pass through the docs against the actual code — a worker action that never existed, an auth header that doesn’t exist, a message bus in the diagram that isn’t in the data path, and “six known failures” that turned out to be one missing package.

Around that, the ideas repo churned hard, Havnetryk got a gated private vessel view built and its first cut torn back out the same day, marine-route-planning got a build/cut/kill memo, plus small passes on cityheatmap, Foreman, Hermes setup, The Cloudy Brain, Maracaibo, Maracaibo dashboard, hermes-office, macos-operator-console and event-agenda.

Tonight: fewer knobs, truer docs, one new server half-drawn.
