Too many projects, too many ideas, too few hours — one learning a day anyway

Dev diary — 2026-07-18

Today was mostly The Cloudy Brain, and mostly subtraction. The nightly job did its usual thing and swept in a batch of changes — but the shape of it was cleanup, not growth. Roughly 200 lines moved and more than twice as many came out as went in. That’s the kind of day where the site gets lighter, not heavier.

Most of it lived in the content layer. Judging by the churn — a lot removed, a little added — this was pruning that had been waiting to happen: trimming things that no longer earned their place. An idea got pruned in the process. I’ll leave it at that; some things don’t need to survive to have been worth writing down.

There’s a certain satisfaction in a day that’s net-negative on lines. It usually means I finally admitted something wasn’t working, or wasn’t needed, and just cut it instead of nursing it along. No new features to show off, no big build to point at — just a quieter, tighter version of what was already there.

Where things stand tonight: The Cloudy Brain is a little leaner than it was yesterday, and nothing else got touched.
